Case Study: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe

stage led lighting

The people of Leeds were treated to a New Year spectacular when the West Yorkshire Playhouse presented the CS Lewis classic The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. The story of magic, mayhem and mischief set in a faraway land where it is always winter but never Christmas…

LED Illuminations (2009) Ltd were thrilled to assist with the lighting in which the stage was full of smoke, haze, loud noises, strobe and flashing lights keeping the audience, young and old, on the edge of their seats.

LED Illuminations were contacted by David Bennion, chief electrician, in June 2017 which shows just how long it took to create and transform the Quarry Theatre from page to stage.

The creative team were looking for colour changing LED ribbon. As the design progressed it was decided that an RGB+W LED ribbon with the white element in cool white (6000K) was required. LED Illuminations carry stock of standard RGB+W LED ribbon but to navigate the stage it was decided that a bendable LED ribbon would suit the application. The LED manufacturers were not making the ribbon in a bendable version, a copper PCB with cut outs on either side allowing the PCB to bend 90 degrees on the horizontal & vertical plane.

LED Illuminations and the LED manufacturer worked on a new design and developed a new mould for a RGB+W bendable LED ribbon which was manufactured and delivered on time.

After finishing technical rehearsals David was very pleased with the effect created by this new product.

The show met with many 5 star reviews.

“If you see just one show this Christmas season, with or without little ones, make it this.”
